Ia translation note, I think they were talking about being “off pitch” not “off beat”. Beat is the rhythm of the song, off beat is like singing at the wrong time, while off pitch is when you sing too high or too low making you sing the wrong note.

To me the scuffed Ahoy reminded me of a beginner pianist, and I imagined Luna practicing the song lol.

What Marine is refering to is perfect pitch (also known as absolute pitch), which is the ability to recognize any pitch without any reference. i.e. play the any note from a keyboard without hearing any other sound and they'll be able to regonize which note it is.

What Kanata is refering to is relative pitch, which is the ability to compare pitch accurately. Unlike perfect pitch, people with relative pitch can only recognize the /distance/ between pitches. i.e. show the person how C5 sounds like and they'll be able to tell any other pitch compared to it.

Perfect pitch (as far as we know) cannot be trained as an adult. Like languages, we seem to lose the ability to gain perfect pitch as we get older, but if you are trained during childhood you will retain perfect pitch for decades to come.
Relative pitch, on the other hand, is a skill, and anyone can learn it. With enough training you will be able to accurately reproduce any melody/chord progression with an insturment (in this case note blocks). Thats why Kanata could make the scuffed note block song without perfect pitch (I assume she had some formal training).

At about 1:17 when they’re talking about singing, I’m pretty sure they’re talking about singing off key not off beat (which is not a mistake its a type of rhythm). Given the context of the rest of the conversation they definitely seem to be talking about hitting notes correctly.

PPT's affinity for relative pitch and her singing are astounding, especially when you remember she's deaf in one ear. You can tell she's absolutely honed her craft despite the modesty seen here.

And then there's me who realizes she was off pitch, but doesn't how to fix it lol. My voice teacher always has to tell me how to fix sth.

If you understand music theory which they all seem to do and they seem to take various dancing and singing classes too ,this should be relatively easy.

The trick is to get the noteblock time subdivided equally. Finding the pitch is rather easy.

Quick reminder that PPT has a hearing problem too, she can only hear with one ear…
